Diono® manufactures car seats specifically designed to safely transport children in accordance with Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
Transporting children outside the scope of CMVSS and FMVSS, such as on a stretcher cot in an ambulance, or children who are casted after Hip Spica surgery, poses uncertainty since there are no crash standards for these scenarios.
We understand these children are most vulnerable and need to be protected as much as any other child riding in a vehicle. There are no Federal standards when it comes to transporting children in these special situations, however, there are guidelines by experts in the child passenger safety industry and NHTSA who approve the use of our car seat products and other car seat brands in non-traditional manners - these entities assume their own risk and Diono® has no affiliation with said entities. Due to the fact that the Radian® car seat was not specifically designed for these special situations, and as there are no standards to validate its performance in these scenarios, Diono® recommends following the Radian® car seat instruction manual as it is written. While we do not have any record of adverse effects of using our car seats in this manner, using any type of car seat outside the scope of the product’s intended purpose is up to the consumer, owner, or entity, and they alone assume responsibility.
